Human Resources Intern Job Vacancy at the United Nations / IRMCT

About the Role

The United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) is offering an exciting internship opportunity within its Human Resources Section. The Mechanism continues essential functions of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), maintaining their legacies while advancing best practices in international criminal justice.

This is an unpaid, full-time internship, requiring interns to work five days per week under the supervision of HR staff.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the focal point for the Internship Programme, handling internal and external inquiries.
  • Manage application processes, draft correspondence, and follow up on documentation.
  • Prepare internship offer letters and coordinate with departments on candidate statuses.
  • Conduct induction briefings for new interns and oversee check-outs upon completion.
  • Maintain and update HR databases, including Official Status Files (OSF).
  • Draft letters, including TWIMC and Note Verbales, for various external offices.
  • Review and confirm CTOs for approval, file attendance sheets, and manage sectoral submissions.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with potential candidates, interns, and staff.
  • Assist the Human Resources Section with ad-hoc tasks as required.

Qualifications and Skills

Education:
Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a first university degree (bachelor’s level or equivalent) in a relevant field.
  • Be enrolled in or have completed a relevant graduate school programme (Master’s degree or equivalent).

Experience:

  • No prior professional work experience is required, but fields related to Human Resources or Administration are preferred.
  • Experience with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint is essential.

Language Proficiency:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of French or another UN official language is desirable.

  • Financial Support: This internship is unpaid. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses.
