Purpose and Scope

The World Bank Tanzania Country Office (AECE1) seeks a professional and highly organized Driver to join its administrative team in Dar es Salaam. Reporting to the Operations Manager and under the coordination of the Senior Administrative Assistant, the Driver will provide transportation services for official assignments, including field visits, document delivery, and ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation for staff to/from airports, meetings, and field visits across Tanzania.
  • Ensure the assigned vehicle is clean, roadworthy, and equipped with a First Aid kit.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks and routine maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logs, including mileage, fuel consumption, and servicing.
  • Observe traffic regulations and road safety standards.
  • Meet and assist mission staff with customs and immigration procedures at the airport.
  • Handle minor vehicle repairs and arrange for major repairs following established procedures.
  • Adhere to security protocols for safe travel within and outside city limits.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding passenger discussions and phone conversations.
  • Report accidents or incidents promptly, following established procedures.
  • Perform additional administrative or driving tasks as required.

Selection Criteria

  • Education: Minimum high school certification or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least five years of professional driving experience with an international organization.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of road safety and traffic regulations.
    • Familiarity with Dar es Salaam roads and Tanzania’s road network.
    • Proficiency in software applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    • Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken).
    • Training in defensive driving, first aid, and emergency procedures is an advantage.
  • Licenses: Valid driving license with certificates in defensive driving and first aid.
  • Attributes:
    • No fault record in road accidents for the past three years.
    • High integrity, professionalism, and commitment.
    • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and under pressure.
    • Flexible to work long hours, including weekends.
