Job Summary

The SME Credit Officer will manage credit-related activities, ensuring strict adherence to the approved Credit and Provisioning Policy and maintaining standardized credit processes and procedures.


Key Responsibilities

1. Understanding Credit/Solutions Development (30%)

  • Analyze customers’ businesses to assess credit risks associated with providing bank products and services.
  • Develop high-quality credit solutions to ensure timely and sound credit decisions.
  • Act as a liaison for credit management with accountants, solicitors, and other professionals.
  • Sanction credit applications or prepare recommendations for senior sanctioning if above personal discretion levels.

2. Business Risk Partnership (30%)

  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers (RMs) on credit applications, offering guidance on credit appetite and engaging with product partners.
  • Coordinate with the Head of Credit or sanctioning office for approvals outside personal discretion.
  • Attend customer meetings with RMs to address and resolve credit-related issues.
  • Proactively contribute to embedding process improvements, quality enhancements, and cost reduction measures.
  • Support specific industry focus initiatives as determined by Corporate and Credit teams.
  • Review and sign facility letters while coordinating documentation and facility drawdowns.

3. Portfolio Management – Monitoring and Control (30%)

  • Manage financial information from customers to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Oversee end-to-end risk reporting, addressing control lapses, and identifying potential risks with RMs.
  • Monitor portfolio quality using Condition of Sanction triggers, identifying and discussing deteriorating trends with sanctioners and RMs.

4. Teamwork (10%)

  • Support team leaders in developing individual team member performance.
  • Promote NBC guiding principles within the team and provide coaching to colleagues.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related fields.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in loan appraisals, portfolio monitoring, or customer acquisition.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and developments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of NBC’s end-to-end loan application processes.
  • Proven experience in handling complex customer situations and decision-making.
  • Awareness of both local and international industry trends.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong decision-making and financial analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and financial comprehension abilities.
  • Formal presentation skills for internal and external engagements.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills with openness to change.
  • Familiarity with IT systems and core banking platforms such as Flex.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Commerce, Management Studies, or a related field.
  • Credit Risk knowledge requiring minimal further development.
  • Digital literacy with room for additional development.
  • Proven reasoning skills meeting all requirements.
