Position Overview

- Reports To: Area Manager
- Supervises: WASH Officers & Assistants
- Duty Station: Kigoma Region (Kasulu/Kibondo/Kakonko Districts)
- Travel: 50%

- Contract Type & Duration: 12 months, renewable based on performance and funding
Key Responsibilities
General Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the WASH project team, ensuring effective implementation and adherence to NRC policies and guidelines.
- Contribute to the development of NRC’s strategies for WASH, and propose innovative project ideas.
- Coordinate and oversee project activities, budget management, and compliance with donor requirements.
- Maintain technical excellence across all project activities, ensuring alignment with sector standards.
- Provide timely and accurate progress reports to the WASH/Shelter Program Development Manager (PDM) and Area Manager.
- Ensure the projects target those most in need and explore innovative ways to deliver support.
- Build the capacity of project staff and facilitate the transfer of key skills.
- Collaborate with local authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and other key stakeholders to enhance project success.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to identify community needs and vulnerabilities, informing project design and advocacy.
- Plan and execute interventions such as water reticulation systems, waste management, hygiene promotion, and vector control.
- Integrate WASH initiatives with NRC’s other priority sectors, including education, camp management, and shelter.
- Establish sustainable systems for maintaining water and sanitation infrastructure, with adequate training for stakeholders.
- Monitor and evaluate project activities to ensure timely delivery and alignment with objectives.
- Uphold humanitarian standards, including UNHCR and SPHERE guidelines, in all project activities.
- Identify and promote training opportunities for NRC staff and partners to build capacity and foster professional growth.
What We’re Looking For
Professional Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Environmental Science, or Public Health).
- At least 3 years of experience in a senior-level project implementation role within a humanitarian or recovery context.
- Expertise in WASH interventions and familiarity with emergency and protracted crisis settings.
- Proven leadership skills and a track record of managing project staff and budgets.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written); knowledge of Swahili is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Tanzania’s humanitarian context is desirable.
