Purpose of the Job:

The Program Assistant – Aquaculture will assist in the implementation of the Women and Youth Economic Empowerment in Fisheries project. The focus will be on supporting aquaculture activities and enhancing the capacity of women and youth in aquaculture value chains across East Africa.

Scope of Work:

1. Management of Project Partners
  • Mobilize youth and women groups to participate in program activities.
  • Engage youth as service providers in avocado and chili value chains and connect them with farmers and value chain actors.
  • Support cross-border traders and consultants to maximize opportunities in the cross-border fish trade.
2. Project Planning
  • Assist in developing project activity work plans and budgets for approval.
  • Provide technical support to consultants in fieldwork and training planning.
  • Collaborate with the program team to create quarterly and annual project plans.
3. Project Implementation
  • Support the program team in executing approved work plans and budgets.
  • Assist consultants in organizing fieldwork and training sessions.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
  • Collaborate with the Project Team Leader and M&E Lead to develop and implement a project Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEAL) plan.
  • Ensure accurate monitoring and reporting of project progress in coordination with the M&E team.
5. Information & Communication
  • Ensure unified and effective communication between the team and project stakeholders.
  • Document best practices, write/edit articles, and prepare project materials for publication.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Natural Resource Economics & Management, Environmental Economics & Management, Rural Development, or Natural Sciences with a focus on Aquaculture.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in project management, focusing on youth and women empowerment initiatives, with experience in the aquaculture sector, cross-border trade, and entrepreneurship.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Kiswahili and local Tanzanian fishing community languages is an advantage.
