Role Overview

NMB Bank PLC is seeking a dedicated and results-oriented Merchant Advisor to drive the Merchant Acquiring Business in the Northern Zone. This role involves recruiting and managing merchants, ensuring adherence to operational procedures and policies, and fostering strong relationships with merchants, branches, and Zonal Sales Managers to achieve sales goals.


Key Responsibilities

Merchant Acquisition and Management:

  • Drive the merchant acquiring business through selling POS, e-commerce, and QR codes, collaborating closely with zones and branches.
  • Conduct merchant training, orientation, and servicing activities, maintaining comprehensive records for each engagement.
  • Ensure timely deployment and proper functionality of merchant devices, along with consistent branding and marketing material distribution.

Performance Reporting and Monitoring:

  • Prepare and share detailed weekly and monthly sales reports, pipelines, and performance reviews with Zonal and Branch Management.
  • Monitor active and inactive devices, merchant payment files, and ensure prompt updates on pipeline status.

Portfolio Growth and Compliance:

  • Perform regular merchant site visits, ensuring compliance with operational regulations and documenting findings for review.
  • Manage fraud-related cases and merchant termination processes end-to-end, ensuring smooth communication and alignment.
  • Verify merchant applications, conduct site inspections, ensure compliance, and maintain up-to-date contractual agreements.

Customer Support and Relationship Management:

  • Provide timely resolution to internal and external customer queries while maintaining a customer-centric approach.
  • Negotiate merchant commissions and implement upselling and cross-selling strategies to maximize business opportunities.

Workshops and Training:

  • Organize and coordinate merchant workshops at the zonal level to disseminate best practices for card acquiring operations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong business acumen and portfolio management skills.
  • Proven sales ability with experience in cross-selling and upselling financial products.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • High level of integrity, teamwork, and adaptability.
  • Self-motivated with proficiency in card schemes and dispute resolution processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of banking experience, with at least 3 years in the acquiring business.
