Position Overview:

The Country Director will serve as BRAC International's chief representative in Tanzania, responsible for overseeing all programmatic and operational functions in the country. The ideal candidate will provide strategic leadership and foster an environment of growth and innovation. This role requires working closely with regional and global teams to ensure that BRAC's vision and mission are effectively implemented in Tanzania.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management

  • Strategic Planning: Lead the development and execution of the Annual Strategic Plan (ASP) for Tanzania, ensuring alignment with BRAC International's goals.
  • Team Leadership: Provide inclusive leadership, ensuring a culture of trust, integrity, and performance within the team.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage administrative, financial, HR, logistics, and IT functions to ensure seamless operations in compliance with global standards and Tanzanian laws.
  • Programme Management: Oversee project execution, guiding programme managers to ensure projects meet contractual obligations, are completed on time and within budget.

Programme Development & Implementation

  • Ensure the right tools, resources, and support for the team to implement high-quality programmes.
  • Drive the integration of key themes like safeguarding, gender equity, and risk management into all projects.
  • Conduct project evaluations, build strong relationships with stakeholders, and provide actionable insights to improve programme delivery.

Financial Management

  • Strengthen financial sustainability through effective budgeting, fundraising, and resource development efforts.
  • Ensure transparency and accuracy in financial management, reporting, and compliance with donor and organizational requirements.

Resource Mobilisation

  • Lead fundraising initiatives, developing a country-specific strategy to diversify funding from institutional, private, and corporate donors.
  • Work closely with global and regional resource mobilisation teams to secure long-term funding for impactful programmes in Tanzania.

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Uphold BRAC's strong safeguarding policies and ensure that all team members are trained and supported in safeguarding practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ensuring the well-being and protection of all programme participants, staff, and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Management, Economics, Public Policy, or other relevant fields.
  • Experience:
    • At least 15 years of strategic programme management experience in a developing country setting, with at least 7-10 years of senior leadership experience.
    • Experience in INGO management, preferably in Tanzania or West Africa.
    • Expertise in fundraising, donor engagement, and leading large-scale multi-stakeholder initiatives.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans and manage complex programmes.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent financial management, planning, and budgeting experience.
  • Ability to build networks and relationships with governments, donors, and private sector entities.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work in diverse, multi-cultural environments.
